Today’s Siuper is dedicated to my friend Paul who celebrates his birthday today! He (not I) requested a Princess Leia, Disney style to celebrate the news of Disney buying the Star Wars franchise for US$4bn!

Sean The Birthday Bear
Its been a hectic first week back in Shanghai with several projects on the go, with that my time was pushed to make another pop-up birthday card for my good friend Sean. Luckily he organized a paint jam session today, which allowed me to paint him an Angry Bear pose I have been thinking about.
Happy Birthday Sean!
Here is a sketch I did of the bear in more detail (which will hopefully be in my next batch of stickers to be printed)
Big Daddy Bobby Tang
As far back as I can remember my father and I would sit in front of the TV to watch two grown men talk smack about each other before they laid the SMACK DOWN on each other! This was the amazing world of the World Wrestling Federation or WWF, before they lost the name to the damn animals and before they admitted to the wrestling being fake. We knew it wasn’t real but for 1 hour we would be suspended in their world of make-believe acting and violence. Today is his birthday and the card is dedicated to the good old days with Big Daddy Bobby Tang!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAD!
SJ and the Bear Birthday Greeting
First off HAPPY BIRTHDAY SHIU JENE!!!
This piece of art was weirdly inspired by my recent bear drawings and a weird compulsion to draw a bear for SJ’s birthday. So began my painting today in 40 degree shanghai sun! I later found out that there was in fact a show called BJ and the Bear Here BJ was a trucker and the “bear” was played by a chimp, yes a CHIMP! anyways…
Have a great Birthday SJ and hope you like the Bearthday greeting (get it?!?)
Happy Belated Birthday Quynh!
Last night was my friend Quynh’s last birthday bash in Shanghai and we missed out. SO this post is for her:
Quynh, apologies for not coming out last night to celebrate your birthday, big apologies as it began to rain and I we didn’t make it out. The consolation is that I was able to finish your birthday card!
Have an amazing year and lets do lunch my treat!
and for those without youtube:
Happy Birthday Natalie Tang!!
Happy Birthday Meilene!
Happy Birthday to my favorite niece in the whole wide world!!!
I hope you like this pop-up flip book plus pop-up letters!
This took me a long time to make so my excuses for not doing Siuper this week were kinda valid (although I will catch up on them today!) The concept has been in my mind for quite sometime to animate a whole sequence using pop-ups. This was my first attempt with the lettering and the sketch in the back ground. I plan to make one that will be roughly 30 sketches long in the coming weeks so watch this space!
Meilene, I hope you like the card and have a great birthday!

Happy Birthday Shawn!
To Shawn, remember; freedom is the right of all sentient beings.
This card was made based on a flip-book pop-up card method used in earlier children’s books as a way to animate the character through a story scene. I used it here to transform bumblebee from robot to car and back again. The art work isn’t mine (sorry Shawn, I am pretty bad when it comes to drawing robots!) Bumblebee is the art work of a Alex Jager and the front image of Optimus Prime is by the now defunct Dreamwave comics team (I am not sure of the actual artist, may have been Pat Lee)
Images and a short video are below of the card in action:
Happy Birthday Mum
Tommy’s Pop-Up Birthday Card
Tommy Happy Birthday Buddy here is your Star Wars themed card for your 4th May birthday!
The ultimate battle between good and evil. I would have loved to have the lightsabers light up when they crossed but I am still working to improve on my electronics skills.
The card is made from two pieces of card, one for the back ground and one for the two combatants. I wanted to stick with a one sheet pop-up however, to do this would have meant the background image being cut into rather than leaving a beautiful silhouette of the windows. So I chose to have Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker as stand alone cut outs to make sure the image looked whole.
Enjoy and may the fourth be with you!
