Michelangelo’s David

This was a project I started on my honeymoon. I was moaning whilst in Florence as I couldn’t find a decent souvenir of the statue of David. My wife (sick of looking and walking around) said “why don’t you make one yourself”

So I took up the challenge and one of the reasons I have stopped sculpting is due to the fact the statue of David is really hard to imitate. The way in which Michelangelo sculpted his David was at an epic scale and to be viewed from below. therefore facial proportion along with most of his anatomy when shrunken down look.. well, strange.

The nail in the coffin for me was the hair. The way the waves are done is very hard to imitate and from the ones I saw in Italy this (and the nose) were areas which are always done incorrect.

Suffice to say I have stopped trying…. for now

also big dent on his right left eye brow where I dropped him by accident not frustration… I swear ;-p
